    Participants wishing to present their research findings should submit a short abstract for the consideration of the Scientific Committee.

    Presentation Formats

    The symposium programme will consist of invited plenary talks, and sessions for oral presentations and posters. Oral and poster contributions will have equal scientific status, and posters will have a truly vital role in fostering discussions among participants.

    Abstract Submission Deadline

    • The deadline for submitting abstracts is May 5, 2022 (EXTENDED).
    • Deadline for Notification of Acceptance is May 10, 2022.
    • Deadline for Submission of Manuscripts is October 15, 2022.

    Symposium topics

    Topics are related to but not limited to the following:

    • Source, Fate and Effect of Sediments in Freshwater and Marine Ecosystems
    • Modelling the Movement of Aquatic Sediments
    • Sediment-associated Nutrient and Contaminant Processes
    • Assessing and/or Restoring Disturbed Catchments
    • Biogenic Influences on Sediment-water Interactions from the Micro to Macro Scale
    • GMOS-Train Special Session
    • Other topics

    Method of Submission

    All abstracts (one page) in .pdf format must be submitted only via the online form that becomes accessible after you have created a new user account with your e-mail address and password. Please find a template HERE with instructions on how to prepare the abstracts.

    Authors will be notified about the successful submission of their abstract by e-mail immediately.     At any time in the process you can click the "Save As Draft" button to save your incomplete submission and return to it at a later time until the submission deadline. Once all required sections have been completed, you can submit your abstract in the Submit section of this page. 
    Important; once you submit your Paper you can no longer edit or delete it.

    All correspondence concerning the abstract will be sent to submitting author’s e-mail address.

    The general abstract deadline is March 15, 2022. Authors will receive confirmation of acceptance of their papers by April 15, 2022. Only the abstracts of authors who have paid their registration fees will be scheduled in the final programme and included in the symposium website.

    A special issue of selected papers from IASWS participants will be published in the Journal of Soils and Sediments in 2022. All oral and poster presenters at IASWS 2020 are eligible for paper submission. The content of the papers should stay within the announced symposium topics. The deadline for the submission is October 15, 2022
    Language of the Symposium
    The official language for the symposium is English, to be used for all presentations and printed materials.

    Plenary Talks
    For the plenary talks, maximum speaking time is 40 minutes. A 5-minute discussion period is scheduled after each invited talk for questions and discussion.

    Oral Presentation
    Oral presentations will be limited to 15 minutes, allowing an additional 5 minutes for discussion. Please submit your Power Point presentation to the registration desk one day before presentation.

    Speakers are kindly requested to stay within the allocated time. Session chairs are kindly requested to ensure that the sessions will progress according to the timetable.

    Poster Session
    Participants are encouraged to display the posters on Monday morning and to keep them on display until Tuesday evening. A special poster session will be held on Tuesday afternoon. The poster boards will be of standard size (A0, portrait orientation).

    Abstract Submission Instructions

    • Abstracts can be submitted on topics listed above.
    • Abstracts have to be written in English.
    • Submitted abstracts must be original. Abstracts previously published or presented at an international scientific meeting cannot be submitted.
    • Fill in the submitting author's name and e-mail address properly - these contact details will serve for further correspondence with the author(s).

    Abstract Layout

    • The length of your abstract text must be 750 words or less. DO NOT include the abstract title and author name(s) in your abstract text.
    • Title: Make the title of the abstract brief, clearly indicating the nature of the investigation. Use a capital letter for the first letter in the title only (DO NOT capitalize each word).
    • Names of the authors: Submit the full given name(s) and the family name. Do not include degrees or professional titles.
    • The structure of abstracts is free, but otherwise they should fulfil all abstract instructions.
    • No references could be included.

    Instructions for Poster Preparation

    • Posters must be brought to the Conference by the presenting author and should not be mailed in advance.
    • You are responsible for setup and take-down of your posters before and after the session.
    • The required dimensions are shown in the bellow guideline.

    • At the top of poster, please provide the title of the paper, names of the authors and their affiliations, all in bold lettering of about 2.5 to 3 cm size. Artwork and lettering should be large and clear enough so that the poster is readable from a distance of 1.5 m.
    • Be at your poster during the poster session.
